Magnet of Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer

Scientists of AMS Collaboration propose to put a large acceptance magnetic spectrometer in space with a new type of permanent Nd-Fe-B magnet and a precision spectrometer to search for antimatter in space with a sensitivity much better than the current limits.

AMS IEE Group (China) took charge of the design and manufacture of the permanent magnet for AMS. After two years, they completed the task perfectly. The magnet will work in the space for two weeks taking space shuttle in 1998, then it will work as an attached payload on the International Space Station Alpha.

The weight of this magnet is limited to 2.3 tons, its dimensions of working zone are 1200กม800mm, magnetic field at center is 1400Gs. It has passed strict vibration test and overload tests.
